Auntie Gill Says
“Let’s look at……………… Lizards”
Lizards are scaled reptiles.
There are over 6,000 different lizards.
Most lizards have 4 legs and run with a strong side-to-side motion.
Other lizards are legless, and have long snake-like bodies.
Some lizards live in forests and are able to glide from tree to tree.
Lizards do not have ears like us. They have 2 round openings which allow
them to hear. If they hear a sound they will run away in case there is
danger.
Why don’t you see if you can find some pictures of lizards and
draw them?
Look at their different coloured scales and see if you can draw
their scale markings.
Can you find a picture of a legless lizard and draw it?
Can you find a picture of a lizard which can glide from tree to tree
and draw it too?
Let’s make a picture of lizards.
For each lizard, fold half a piece of A4 paper in half and draw
around the template. A grown up may have to cut out the shape
for you but when you open it up you will see it looks like a lizard.
Draw 2 eyes and colour the lizard shape. You can try and copy the
scales of a lizard you have seen in a picture you have found or
make a pretty pattern.
After you have coloured the lizard the flap, where the lizard’s
tummy is, can be joined together with glue or sticky tape to make
a raised lizard shape.
To finish the picture, draw and paint a background to show where
your lizards live. Stick the lizards on to the picture by their tummy
flaps.
Write a story about your lizards and read the story to someone
special.
